Note

As the eldest son, he inherited his father's estate. He was employed by The Henry Willis Co, the organ manufacturers.

He was well known and respected by this company, and was known by the successive Henry Willises as "Uncle Temple". He was a sharp operator, and the company have many stories to tell about him. The story that he had bought 51% of the shares is over stated. (Henry Willis would never have sold control of his business). Instead, it is possible that he had 5 shares in the same manner as the other directors. He always worked for the Liverpool branch, and the current management are often coming across his letters in their correspondence.

I will be making a visit to the head office - now located in Liverpool, and hope to learn more - one or two men still live who new him.

He is thought to have died in the 1960's. He lived in a large house in Hoylake, with a gardener and chauffeur.

I had hoped to make a link between this man, the organ in the Chapel Windsor Castle, and his great nephew Edward Bell who was deputy Head Chorister. However, the only Henry Willis organ in the Castle was in St Georges Hall, and was destroyed by the fire in the 1990's.
